Astonishing Tales Of Mediocrity: The Brandon Mendelson Story

The Universe Said To The Man

Follow @BJMendelson and listen to a white man say outrageous things for attention.

It’s no secret, I like to screw around with things in the public domain. Last weekend I decided to pitch something along those lines to the folks at Mcsweeney’s. It didn’t take, so here it is for you to enjoy:

The Original:

Stephen Crane’s “A Man Said To The Universe”

A man said to the universe:
“Sir I exist!”
“However,” replied the universe,
“The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation.”

My Version:

Brandon Mendelson’s The Universe Said To The Man

The Universe said to the man:
“Do you want to have a slumber party in my basement?”
“Universe”, replied the man,
“Aren’t those the lyrics
to a Ke$ha song?”
